Easterrific!

Sunday Apr. 1st, Art Explorers! Art Workshop: 10:15 a.m. ‘til 11:45 a.m. – All Things Easter. Love, love, love the colours that come out at Easter time. And for some reason when I think of crafts and Easter, felt comes to mind as the medium of choice… And feathers. I’m not really sure why, either. Thoughts aside – this Sunday’s art workshop will feature making brooches and bookmarks with some Easter flare. Who wouldn’t want to sport a stylish Easter brooch? Or give a bunny or ducky bookmark to someone special? And if there’s time – we’ll dye some eggs too. Got a simple, but stylin’ egg decorating idea up my sleeve. We shall see!

We heart artist trading cards

Sunday Feb. 12th, Multimedia Art For Kids Workshop: 10:15 a.m. ‘til 11:45 a.m. – Artist Trading Cards. We’ve done ‘em before, but kids just love doing artist trading cards, and what better than to do them with a V-day spin in preparation for Valentine’s Day next Tuesday! Artist Trading Cards have been around for a little while (since 1996) and are sort of the art version of baseball cards. They are even the size of baseball cards and can fit in standard trading card protective sleeves. The workshop will be fun — we’ll use every medium we’ve got – glitter, paint, pastel, googly eyes, and maybe even some of those old-school paper heart doilies!

Dragons and Fortune Cookies

Sunday Jan. 29th, Multi-Medium Art Workshop: 10:15 a.m. ‘til 11:45 a.m. – Dragon Art! I have a student absolutely fascinated by all things Chinese. Chinatown, Chinese history, Chinese Art etc. etc… So this one’s for you Malcolm! We’ll be sketching and painting dragons as well as adding in a bit of collage in celebration of Chinese New Year. We’ll also be reading ‘Bringing In The New Year’ and ‘Fortune Cookie Fortunes’ by Grace Lin. It’ll be a great class and I can’t wait to see the marvelous red, gold AND BLUE creations (it is a water dragon this year after all!)

Decorative, Darling, Decoupage

Saturday Dec. 17th, Multi-Medium Art Workshop: 10:15 a.m. ‘til 11:45 a.m. – Decoupage Gift Bags: Using recycled magazines and old xmas gift wrap, we’ll apply the art of decoupage on cereal or cracker boxes to create some re-usable gift bags. We’ll also glue on ribbons, tinsel, decorations, buttons or beads to dress up the bag. ‘Tis the season!

Merry ‘Klimt’mas!

Sunday Dec. 11th, Multi-Medium Art Workshop: 10:15 a.m. ‘til 11:45 a.m. – An Exploration of Gustav Klimt: In this class, the children will appreciate the wonderful works of Klimt. We feel that his art’s richness combines perfectly with the decorations of the holiday season — so glitter, metallic paints and pastels will be the mediums for this workshop.

A timely focus on ‘The Scream’

Sunday Oct. 30th, Multi-Medium Art Workshop: 10:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Halloween-Themed Art History. This fall our art workshops have been all about art history. So continuing with this focus and combining it with Halloween, our next featured artist will be Edvard Munch and his painting ‘The Scream’. We’ll discuss the story behind his spooooky creation, and then paint our own version of it!

Dad’s Day Pen Pots

Saturday June 18th, Multi-Medium Art Workshop: 10:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Pencil Holders. During this last-of-the-season (boo-hoo!) workshop we’ll be re-using and recycling anything we can get our hands on and gluing them to some hefty cardboard tubes to make pretty pencil holders. Beads? We got ‘em. Ribbon? Check. The list is endless. Bring ‘em all together and we’ve got the makings for a great gift for dear old Dad!

All About Mom

Saturday May 7th Mixed-Media Art Workshop: 10:15 a.m. ‘til 11:45 a.m. – Decoupage Vases. I don’t know any mother who doesn’t love getting flowers from their little ones – especially on Mother’s Day! This workshop we’ll be making vases to put those much adored flowers in.

Holiday Printmaking

Saturday Dec. 11th, Multimedia Art For Kids Workshop: 10:30 a.m. ‘til noon – Printmaking: In this class, the children will get to explore printmaking on kraft paper and xmas cards. We’ll be using many different methods and media for making some unique and re-usable gift wrap and cards.

Art Journals!

Saturday June 26th, Multimedia Art For Kids Workshop: 10:30 a.m. ‘til noon. 2 reasons for Art Journals this week. 1) It’s our last class of the season and thought these would be great for the kids to add entries to over the summer. Sort of a ‘What I did over the Summer ’10 – in pictures’ type of journal. 2) We’ve found that the most popular activity in our art class is where the kids get to create on the fly. Doodling and drawing random pictures are EXACTLY what Art Journals are for. This class we will decorate the cover personalizing it with our names and drawing of ourselves.
