Wassily Kandinsky’s ‘A Study of Abstract Squares’

Sunday Oct. 16th, Multi-Medium Art Workshop: 10:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Abstract Art. Abstract art uses a visual language of form, color and line to create a composition which exists with a degree of independence from visual references in our world. At this workshop we’ll discuss what the term ‘Abstract’ means when related to art and also discuss some of the great abstract artists including Kandinsky, Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko.

Saturday Jan. 23rd’s Multimedia Art For Kids Workshop: 10:30 a.m. ‘til noon – Abstract Art focusing on Shapes: There are countless pieces to discuss in Wassily Kandinsky’s collection, hence the reason for continuing with a second class. Last time we did an exercise on colour, so this workshop we’ll expand on that and explore shapes in abstraction using his piece ‘Transverse Line” as just one example.

Studying Colour with Wassily Kandinsky

Saturday Jan. 9th’s Multimedia Art Workshop: 10:30 a.m. ‘til noon – Watercolour & Pastel: Last year’s ‘Intro to Art History’ series was such a success, that we’ve decided to continue the series throughout January. In this class, we’ll be learning about one of the first creators of pure abstraction in modern painting, Wassily Kandinsky. Focusing on one piece called ‘Color Studies’, the children will do their own colour studying/creating – using watercolours and pastel on watercolour paper.
