Mandala Magic

Ever since taking a mindfulness meditation course in the spring I’ve been on a mandala kick (trying to do at least 1 a week). And one of my all time fave art workshops with Centre for Art & Soul is this mandala workshop. So when my son’s friend asked if I’d do some watercolour art with her, I suggested doing a mandala. We did rings in watercolour and when it dried, we used fine tipped markers to create our designs – starting from the centre – working outward… There is just something inexplicably pretty about children’s mandala art. A light breeze, giggles, fresh strawberries and watercolour paints – that’s what inspired the mandalas on this sunny summer day!
Circles are meditative…

Sunday Feb. 27th Mixed Media Art For Kids Workshop: 10:15 a.m. ‘til 11:45 a.m. – Mandala Art. Have wanted to do a mandala workshop for quite some time now. So when I came across the story ‘The Dot’ By Peter H. Reynolds, I thought what a great story to inspire a discussion about dots and circles and the art of creating mandalas. We’ll watercolour paint our circles first, and then later doodle with pen and ink to add detail to the mandala. Looking forward to a blissed-out, zen-calm class! I wonder?

Making Points with Georges Seurat

Sunday Nov. 29th Art Workshop: In this class, children will learn about the style of art known as pointillism and the artist (Georges Seurat) who created it.
Georges Seurat was a painter who was interested in shape and pattern, but he approached these things in a very unusual way. He was the developer of a very scientific way of painting known as pointillism. He used tiny dots of pure color, side by side to build form in his paintings. These tiny dots of paint, when side by side, give the viewer’s eye a chance to blend the color optically, rather than having the colors readily blended on the canvas.
