Sunday May 5th, Art Explorers! Art Workshop: 10:15 a.m. ‘til 11:45 a.m. – Upcycled Jewel Cases. We’ve done this project before, but will probably continue as long as there are empty cd cases floating around! CD jewel cases are made with PVC plastic; non-recyclable in most communities. So let’s get crafty and up-cycle unwanted jewel cases into art frames. It’s a great way to keep trash out of the landfill and proudly display our awesome creations! There are many different mediums that will work with these cases, but for this workshop we’ll be using plasticine/modelling clay. A great supportive book to this exercise is authour Barbara Reid’s “Picture a Tree”. The talented Toronto-based artist creates all of her illustrations with plasticine, so we’ll use her style as reference for our pieces. Children are also encouraged to bring in their own Barabara Reid book they’d like to share and read for us!

Sunday Apr. 14th, Art Explorers! Art Workshop: 10:15 a.m. ‘til 11:45 a.m. – This Sunday we are kicking off the class with story telling from books focused on Earth Day and eco-consciousness. After story time, kids will discuss, brainstorm & sketch a rough design of all that planet earth provides for us. For this part 1 class, we’ll be outlining our designs in pencil and sealing the sketch with glue. Then once the glue dries, at the following class (part 2) — we’ll be colouring our designs with chalk pastels.

Sunday Apr. 7th, Art Explorers! Art Workshop: 10:15 a.m. ‘til 11:45 a.m. – Recycled Robots: For this project we’ll use corrugated cardboard, bottle caps, juice carton lids, wires, buttons, old metal bits, and any other old junk we can get our hands on! Inspiration credit goes Deep Space Sparkle who graciously shared this tutorial.

Sunday Mar. 24th, Art Explorers! Art Workshop: 10:15 a.m. ‘til 11:45 a.m. – Cartooning Workshop. This Sunday we have a special guest teacher Mike Goodge – guiding us with steps on how to cartoon! Kids will learn the basics of cartooning illustration with projects such as character poses, caricatures, characters with emotions and  other fun skills and techniques in the comic world!

Sunday Mar. 10th, Art Explorers! Art Workshop: 10:15 a.m. ‘til 11:45 a.m. – Monet’s Water Lilies. There is so much to learn and appreciate about the talents of the great artists and their masterpieces. This Sunday’s class we will talk a bit about “Impressionism” and then do our own renditions of Claude Monet’s ‘Water Lilies’. We’ll also read a wonderful story called ‘The Magical Garden of Claude Monet’ written by Laurence Anholt.
